Wine of the Week: Penns Woods Winery 2025 Willow White
It tastes like drinking flowers.
I spent some time at Penns Woods Winery in Chadds Ford, PA, a couple of weeks ago, for an upcoming profile piece on Drink Philly. It is always a pleasure to sit with the folks from Penns Woods and chat, and if we’re having some wine while doing so, it’s even more of a pleasure. We tasted through a good portion of their current releases, and I enjoyed so many of them, but I chose the Willow White as a Wine of the Week because—while yes, you can drink any wine during any season—this is one I think is particularly suited to warmer weather.
The white blend, 36% Pinot Grigio, 27% Sauvignon Blanc, 25% Chardonnay, and12% Moscato—all grown in Penns Woods’ vineyards—has aromas of peach and jasmine, and flavors of honeysuckle, pineapple, mango, and green apple in the finish. Off-dry. In my notes, I wrote, “It tastes like drinking flowers.”
The fruitiness of this wine and its slight sweetness make me think this would be a great wine to build a wine cocktail with. I didn’t try anything fancy, but I used it in a spritz with Waterloo lemon-lime sparkling water, and it worked really well.
Unfortunately, by the time I opened this bottle this past weekend, it was too chilly to head outside and drink it, but I do believe the Willow White should be enjoyed on the patio, deck, at a picnic in the park, or on the beach.
This is not the first time a Penns Woods wine was chosen as Wine of the Week. Earlier this year, I wrote about their Carmine Franc.
